geometry

Second on the list of classic elements for  your garden is geometry.  Circles, squares, triangles and rectangles added to line is what creates the timeless design in the photos below.

Created with paving, walls, plantings and water, these geometric shapes soften line and add flow and lyricism to the overall design.  They allow movement and at times lead the eye in the direction the designer intends. If there is a curve , the eye will naturally follow it.

Once these elements are in place, repeating the shapes in 3 dimension with topiary, and or sculpture, help not only to add additional interest but strengthen the overall design, elevating it to another level.

Repetition is what gives us the sense of  controlled uniformity as well as balance. so adherent to classic design.
