gravel paths and patios

image via tales of carmel

When deciding on a gravel path or patio, keep in mind that as charming and timeless as they are they do require maintenance to keep them looking picture perfect. Raking out ruts and leaves can be back breaking work if the area is large, as well as the need for reapplying gravel periodically. My advice would be to try to include an easy access to the area wide enough for a delivery truck to pass through. This would alleviate the need for wheel barreling the heavy material to and from the drop off site each time a new layer is added.

  1. That makes so much sense Mary Anne! I never thought about what the maintenance of a gravel path would look like! x Maria

  2. After having push, pulled and dragged gravel to a rear yard area, I can attest to the fact that it is one of the more difficult maintenance chores.

  3. I would agree that the maintenance for gravel paths can be tiresome and methodical but the result is worth it. I could not think of a better way to have a walkway through my garden. I love the look that can only be made by utilizing gravel, it reminds me a lot of those gardens you would see in England. I would also like to add I love those pictures, I wish my garden was as beautiful as those.
